Content Moderation Policy
Purpose
This policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for moderating user-generated content, specifically customer reviews, submitted through our merchant websites. It aims to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations while fostering a constructive and transparent environment for your expression.
Scope
This policy applies to all content you upload or submit through our merchant websites, including customer reviews and comments on product pages. By submitting a review, you agree to adhere to this policy and its terms of use.
License Grant
By submitting content, you grant us (and those we work with) a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive right and license to publish, post, reformat, index, archive, and otherwise use such submissions in all forms and media, in connection with the operation of our respective businesses.
Submission Guidelines
We encourage you to share your opinions; however, you must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Original Content: All submissions must be original and authored by you. You warrant that you own all rights necessary to grant the permissions specified in this policy.
- No Anonymous Posting: You must not submit content anonymously. Only users with a customer account can leave a comment. To leave a comment, you must log into your customer account or create one.
- Prohibited Content: Your submissions must not:
- Be illegal, defamatory, abusive, obscene, offensive, violent, threatening or vulgar politically charged, racist, or xenophobic.
- Violate or infringe upon the rights of any other person.
- Refer to or mention reviews by other users.
- Be used for personal or professional purposes, including advertising.
- Contain personal data.
- Review Ranking: Reviews are sorted chronologically by default, from most recent to oldest.
Moderation Practices
- Moderation: Comments and reviews are subject to moderation. Elsevier reserves the right not to publish, or to remove at any time, comments or reviews that are contrary to this policy.
- Reasons for Refusal: Your reviews may be refused publication for the following reasons:
- The rating does not correspond to the comment.
- The submitted review relates to the purchasing experience (customer service, delivery) rather than the product rated.
- The textual content is poorly written or unintelligible.
- The content is unrelated to the rated product.
- The textual content contains personal information.
- The review encourages purchasing from a competitor or indicates that you have not tested the product.
- The content contains profanity or insults.
- The textual content is clearly spam or includes calls for legal action.
- Publication and Retention Times: Reviews will be published within two months of submission and will remain online as long as the product is available for sale.
Reporting and Appeals
- Reporting Mechanism: You can report reviews as abusive by contacting us through the Elsevier eCommerce Support Center contact form. Reviews flagged as abusive may be subject to deletion.
- Modification Requests: You can request modifications to your reviews by contacting us. Identity verification will be required before changes are made.
- User Appeals: If you believe that your review was unjustly removed, you can contact us through the Elsevier eCommerce Support Center contact form.
Your Responsibility
You are responsible for the content you submit and must ensure that it complies with this policy. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or compliance of any submission that does not conform to the guidelines outlined herein.
Verification and Contact
We reserve the right to contact you for verification purposes if there are doubts about the authenticity of your review. If you believe your rights are being infringed upon or have concerns, please contact us through the Elsevier eCommerce Support Center contact form.
Modification or Deletion of a Review
After publication, a review can be reported as abusive or inappropriate by a third party. Reviews flagged as abusive may thus be subject to deletion. The author of a review can also request a modification of the review by contacting us through the Elsevier eCommerce Support Center contact form. After verifying the identity of the author (email address, pseudonym) and the request, the review will be modified by the moderation team.
Changes to the Policy
We reserve the right to update this policy at any time. Your continued use of our services following any modifications signifies acceptance of the new terms.
